Possibility of Tomorrow - 38

Cont...

The first thing Everett Ross did once T'Challa left was to watch the recording.

The second thing he did was read through all the provided files.

Then he rewatched the recording. Then he made a mental note to try and get Sergeant Barnes out of the heat they'd been putting on him since the Berlin incident.

After that, he dug through his cabinets for a burn phone he kept for things like this. Then he called the Attorney General. Once he explains the clandestine nature of the information he was holding and how it was imperative that it not get out, they arranged for him to fly back home under a guise in the next week.

When he hung up, he then decided to listen to the recording a third time. Listening, he was struck by the person Ross was talking to sounded young. Feminine but not Romanoff, not Maximoff either. Too young to be in the conflict two years ago. It might be one of the Wakanda agents, but there was no accent, and Everett didn't think T'Challa would let children work his intelligence.

Everett replayed it again, listening carefully.

'And the girl?' Ross asked on the recording as they talked about what Everett was guessing was Bucky Barnes.

'Still nothing. The trap didn't work. Apparently, she's less caring than we thought.' The Female voice responded nonchalantly.

Everett paused the recording. A girl that would supposedly come for a captured Bucky Barnes. A girl Ross wanted more than he wanted Sergeant Barnes.

Everett grabbed his phone and dialed T'Challa. It rang once.

 "Yes, friend?"

"Who's the other person in the recording? The one he's talking to?"

"I'm not sure."

"Cut the lies. I know you're hiding Barnes. I also know that somehow you lost him a while back. There was a girl that went after him. Please tell me you didn't send a child to get a confession out of Ross."

"I didn't." Everett relaxed, but T'Challa kept going, "But I wasn't the one who arranged the mission."

Everett stiffened, "Please tell me that isn't a child in that recording."

"I'm afraid I can't do that. She volunteered to do it. By the time I got the recording, it was already done."

Everett rubbed his forehead, "Who is she?"

The silence the followed made the hair on the back of his neck stand up.

T'Challa finally sighed, "Barnes's daughter."
