Possibility of Tomorrow - 36

Cont...

Bucky watched as the sports car pulled into the garage at 12:30 at night. He turned and headed to Tony's lab, where they would put the recordings together. The boys seemed fine. They were talking a mile a minute, working and putting all the recordings together. Darling, on the other hand, was sitting in silence, watching intensely.

Bucky walked over, "You okay?"

Darling looked up at him, "I will be. When this is over."

Bucky pulled her into a hug. Letting her bury her face in his chest.

Darling sniffled, "I just want it to be over."

"I know, I know." Bucky said quietly, rubbing her back, "It will be soon."

"So we have it decrypted?" Rhodey asked, coming down into the lab with Tony in tow.

"Almost. Have to clean up the quality." Peter said.

"So we were right?" Tony asked excitedly.

"Yeah, you were." Darling nodded with a small smile.

"Will it be enough?" Rhodey asked, looking over at Darling.

"Yes, it is. If he doesn't buy the system, it will bury him." Darling nodded confidently.

"Are we sure Everett can't be bought?" Tony asked, looking to Bucky.

"He can't be. He's got a compass stronger than steel. He'd quit before he got bought." Bucky shook his head.

"Alright, he'll be our hand of the law." Rhodey nodded.

"Did you already give him that file on Ross's internet dealings?" Tony asked Darling.

"No, I never got the chance. But I had a realization, what if the reason we couldn't find internet dealings between the two brothers was because Ross had his internet group clean it up?" Darling said.

"There's a real possibility that's what happened." Tony nodded, "Hopefully, once we hand over the evidence, they can uncover more things they did."

"Got it!" Peter turned around and tossed Rhodey a USB, "There's your recording that you'll need to bring the  giant down."

Rhodey turned the stick over in his hands, "Now for the hard part, getting Everett to trust us."

"T'Challa vouches for him." Bucky said with a frown, "What will be so hard?"

"He may trust T'Challa but probably won't trust us. We'll have to earn it first." Rhodey said, pocketing the drive, "That'll take time."

"What if we just had T'Challa do it?" Darling asked, "That way, it's coming from a trusted source and will go through the paperwork giant faster."

All the adults stared at her for a moment. "Why didn't we think of that sooner?" Tony asked with fake annoyance.

"Cause she's a genius," Harley said matter of factly.

"No one asked you heart eyes." Peter retorted, bumping Harley's shoulder. Harley turned red, and Darling started laughing.

Rhodey shook his head, "Moving on," he turned to Bucky, "Can you get this to T'Challa so we can get it to Everett?"

Bucky nodded, "Yeah, I can get it to him within 48 hours."

"Alright, get in touch. Let's see if we can bury this double dealer by the end of the week." Rhodey nodded, tossing Bucky the drive.

"I'll start planning the welcome back dinner!" Tony joked.

Rhodey rolled his eyes, "You aren't allowed to do that for any big dinner, or do you want me to remind you of the 2010 catfish catastrophe?"

Tony paled, "We don't talk about that."

"We don't talk about that?" Rhodey asked playfully before turning to the others, "We don't talk about that."

Harley chuckled, "I remember that. Maybe let Pepper do all the planning this time."

Peter looked thoughtful, "Did that end up all over Fox-"

"Yes, it did. Now stop talking about it, or you're disowned," Tony said lowly.

Peter was now grinning smugly, "Sure, for now."

Bucky chuckled, "I'm pretty sure I don't wanna know."

"Oh, I definitely do." Darling grinned.
