The Price We Pay for Family - 3

Cont...   Bucky somehow slept on the plane. Years of discipline were the only things that outweighed the anxiety and fear rolling in his chest and let him sleep. It was a good thing he did cause the instant they touched down, they were being whisked into cars and inundated with information from every side. The drive from the airport to Sarah's front porch was a blur, but the instant they arrived, the gravity of the situation came crashing in. There were squad cars parked in the yard. The FBI had a whole van parked behind the house. The crime scene techs were swarming too and fro, mixed with the community members coming to support the Wilsons. The instant the car stopped, Sam was out of the car and bolting up the steps. Sarah met him at the door, throwing herself into Sam's embrace. She was crying, and Sam was holding on tight like if he didn't, she'd disappear too. "It's okay. You're okay. I'm here. They'll be okay. I got you." Sam whis

Cont... (A small note to try and make sure no one gets mad at me. In my head, I think of and address Joaquin Torres and just Torres in my head and in my writing. Using his first name disconnects him when I write for some reason. So in this story, he will be referred to as Torres unless I'm introducing him to someone.) They were in the middle of a celebratory dinner when Sam's phone rang. They'd taken out the last of the botched serums from a homegrown extremist who'd been hiding in India. That cut off all the supplies to the Super-Soldier market. It was a night to celebrate the victory, no matter how short it would be. Sam checked the caller ID before excusing himself from the table and answering, "What's up, sis?" "Sam?" That was not Sarah, "It's Carlos." Sam's gut dropped out, "What's wrong?" "It's the boys. They're missing." Carlos didn't dance around the subject. Sam sucked i

So, I had mixed feeling about Disney+'s Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV show. But I utterly fell in love with the Wilson Family.  I was watching and was going, 'this is great. The new Captain America has a liability that could take him and his partner out of the game. is NO ONE SEEING THIS???' (I'm odd, I know)  I know it was touched on in the show, but I feel like it was a missed, or not yet recognized, potential. And it seemed like the perfect place for me to fill that void.  "I hate you!" Cass's voice cracked as he screeched at his mother.  Sarah had been expecting a lot, but not that, "Young man, I will not tolerate that kind of behavior in my home, so you either straighten it out right now or go outside and start on the weeding that needs to be done until you can talk to me without screaming."  "You never listen!" Cass screamed as he slammed the door on his way out.  Sarah sighed as she heard him slamming things around as he gra

Cont... Bucky found Darling outside as the welcome home party rolled on inside the Compound. Everyone had eaten their fill of food, and now there was music and stories being passed around for the last few hours. It was joyous and overflowing and peaceful. Here in upstate New York, you could see the stars, and that's where Bucky found Darling. Outside on the patio, soda in one hand, staring up at the stars. He stood next to her for a little while, staring up at the stars. \ "We did it." Darling whispered, "We outran the past."  "No, we conquered the past." Bucky said firmly, "We'll never be rid of it, but we are free of it."  "Is this what life's supposed to feel like?" Darling asked, "So, light?"  "Yeah. Yeah, it is."  "It feels good."  "Yeah, it does."  "I could get used to this." "They view or the feeling? Cause I've got a better view in Wakanda."  "The
