Sam - 15

Cont...

Flying west they found the jet that was now in the air with relative ease. The back hatch opened for them and they dropped in before sealing the dissipating elements out.

"Base is gone," Sam said, peeling off his poncho and mask.

"Good. So where are we headed? He needs medical attention, fast." Bucky asked, rising upon their entry.

It was then they noticed Steve. The drug had worn off and there was more than just a broken rib going on. Bucky had covered him with a blanket but that was all he could do. He had his own broken leg to deal with.

"Med kit." Sam orders tossing his jacket and wings to the side.

Avery had it instantly. Sam pulled the blanket off and cut away Steve's shirt to reveal horrid bruising all down his torso, "He has at least two broken ribs, internal bleeding. We need a medical facility, now. There's only so much I can do."

Avery handed Sam what he needed, "Our bases are hours from here with the proper equipment. There isn't anywhere west we can take him. It'll be too late."

"How far is New York?" Bucky asked.

"Bucky, no!" Sam said looking up in shock.

Bucky shook his head, "We don't have another option. How far?"

"I can do it in thirty minutes or less if I floor it," Max said.

"Do it," Bucky said grimly. Steve needed the treatment, if they were lucky they could drop him and leave.

"N-o," Steve gasp out, surprising them. His eyes were still closed and his color was awful but somehow he was still awake.

"You don't get a say in this Punk, it's New York or nothing, now stop talking." Bucky snapped quickly, cutting Steve off.

"Wait." Avery leaned closer to Steve, "What do you mean?"

"Upstate- Compound- Tony- Call-" Steve gasp out words trying to get his point across.

"You want us to go to the upstate Avengers compound and call Tony Stark for clearance?" Avery put it together.

"Are you mad? He hates you!" Sam sputtered.

"Call him- special number-" Steve groaned.

"You want us to call Tony on a prearranged number?" Avery asked. Steve weakly nodded.

"That's insanity! He'll arrest you!" Sam shook his head.

"Do you have a better option?" Avery asked.

"Yeah, fly in and drop him off!" Bucky cut in.

"You can't!" Max called from the front, "Post 9/11 New York requires clearance for any aircraft coming over the city. Without that clearance, we'll get blown out of the sky! I need to know now if we have that clearance."

Avery looked to Sam and Bucky who looked stunned. Time was running out they had to know now. Bucky closed his eyes and shook his head, "Why not?" He spat sarcastically.

Sam huffed and looked down at Steve, "This is the worst idea you've ever had just so we're clear."
