It was dark by the time Sam and Bucky got back, the argument still not resolved but the agreement to try and keep it to a minimum for Steve was.

Coming to the apartment Sam unlocked the door and came in as quietly as possible with the creaky floorboards. Bucky followed him into the dark room, "Steve?"

There was no response, silence, not even breathing. Without a second thought, he flipped the lights on and Sam gasped.

The apartment was trashed. The countertop was crushed, there were broken dishes and shards of shattered lamp all over the floor. The couch and chairs were flipped and some were smashed.

"Steve?!" Sam called. Ignoring the mess they both tore the apartment apart looking for Steve.

 There were some dents in the walls that looked to be from his shield and there were bullet holes in the drywall. All signs pointed to he had been taken. The rooms had been tossed like someone was looking for something.

There was nothing they could do. Sam grabbed what he could as did Bucky. They took a car and drove almost in a daze away from the now crime scene of an apartment. They eventually stopped on the other side of town in an empty parking lot.

Sam turned the car off and looked over at Bucky who hadn't stopped staring, let alone speak since they got in the car. "Are you okay?" Sam asked, realizing that Bucky would be having a slightly harder time of this than he would.

Bucky swallowed, "He's gone." With a small shake of his head that seemed to wake him out of his daze, he looked over to Sam and looked sad, angry, and lost all at once, "What are we gonna do?"

We. They were in this together now, there was no one else. Wanda and Nat were unreachable and untraceable. There was no one else. Right now it was just them with nowhere to go and no one to turn to.

"I don't know." Sam said honestly, "But we're gonna figure it out."

  Cont... Sam had never felt so helpless than when he'd handed Bucky's much too light body to the doctors and had only been left to pray he'd be okay. He'd see Bucky had so pretty huge highs and some pretty deep lows, but Sam had never seen him that still, that dead. Even out of surgery and hooked up to all sorts of machines, he still looked dead. His skin was shallow, his breathing forced by a tube down his throat.  The only way Sam could have told he was alive was the wheeze of the air machine and the steady slow beep of the heart monitor. The doctors had done four surgeries to repair the damage they could. They'd had to infuse most of his skeleton with vibranium to help it regrow. At least now, his arms and hands didn't look deformed.  They'd told him they were keeping him under until they could get his breathing to go on its own.   Cont... Yelena Belova was a force of nature. Sam had only made her acquaintances 6 hours ago, but Bast if she didn't make an impression.  They'd found her at Natasha's grave in Ohio, and she'd almost shot John on sight for 'being such a belligerent idiot' and sullying her sister's reputation with charity groups. After they'd ironed that out, she'd had some choice Russian curses to spit about the 'Countessa El moron.'
