Possibility of Tomorrow - 5

Cont...  The next morning the Girl started sweating profusely. Wanda and Nat changed her clothes and cooled her down with cold water. It helped for an hour. By the end of the day, she had a growing fever. Sam had given her another IV and fever-fighting medicine.  In the middle of the night, she started murmuring words that didn't make sense. By the second day, it was clear she couldn't be left alone. They all started taking shifts to tend to her. That was also the day she started puking. After the first few times, it was her dry heaving as she moaned. The fever got worse; she didn't wake.  By the fourth day, she was so weak she couldn't move, just lay there shivering and sweating and moaning. Bucky was the only one who could get her to sleep peacefully. She'd latch onto his metal arm, bury her hot forehead on it and sigh. If they were lucky, she'd go to sleep for a few hours. They couldn't pump liquids and nutrients into her fast enough.  On the fifth day, s...

Possibility of Tomorrow - 4

Cont... It took them an hour to get their stuff and make it down to the docks. Nat's contact was there unloading whatever it was he was transporting. He let them put Steve in one of the bunks. There were only four bunks, but Bucky was fine with sleeping on the cot. Once they had Nat and Steve settled. Bucky turned to Wanda, "Do you feel comfortable?"  Wanda paused before nodding, "Yes, why?"  "Watch them. We'll be back before the boat leaves." Bucky said, grabbing Sam's elbow and his weapons bag, headed for the door.  "Where are we going?" Sam asked, baffled.  "To catch that shooter," Bucky said, shouldering his weapons bag.  "I thought you said they went out the window," Nat recalled.  "Yeah, they went in like a diver too. I'm just going to check." Bucky loaded his handgun.  "We leave in an hour and a half." Sam tried to reason.  "Then we better hurry up," Bucky responded, finis...

Possibility of Tomorrow - 3

Cont... They made it across town in two hours due to the unrest. They chose an empty back room that was only accessible from an alley to wait. The sun was still a few hours off as they did a perimeter check.  Bucky scanned the roofs and skyscrapers around them, looking for anything or anyone. A flash across the street had him pulling Steve back from stepping out into the line of sight, "Someone's there."  "Where?" Steve scanned the other side of the road.  Where had it been? "Behind those parked cars, your eleven o'clock." Bucky nodded.  Steve looked over in time to see dark fabric vanish into the side door of the office building, "Romanoff, you're with us. Sam, Wanda, double back and make sure no one else is boxing is in. Protect our position or get out of dodge." "You got it." Sam's voice came through the phone in Steve's pocket, too quiet for anyone else to hear.  "You sure this is a good idea?" Nat as...

Possibility of Tomorrow - 2

Cont... Istanbul was not the safest place to lay low with all the riots and political unrest in the area, but Sam supposed that that was part of the appeal for a spy, the ability to blend in. With crowds of people everywhere, it made things easy. It also made his nerves stand on end.  They were squatting in an old abandoned office building at least ten stories above the street level so they could avoid the tear gas and fire. From up there, they could look down at the mobs alight with anger and fire. At night the smoke added a sinister spooky feel.  The protests had been going on for a week straight. Sam wasn't sure they were ever going to end. Coughing on the fumes of gas, he kept his head down and weaved through the crowd, trying to get to the store before it closed so they would have dinner tonight. For once, he was glad Barnes was there; the muscle to shove through crowds now and then was nice.  They finally made it out, and Sam ducked into the store to get what...

Possibility of Tomorrow

This story has been floating around in my head for a long time and I really like the trope so I decided to try my hand at it.  This was also my most stressful piece cause I totally forgot I needed to get a story up until like a week before. Whoops.  Another thing, not to be 'that author' but please comment. You have no idea how much a  motivator  and excitement that is for me. Well, enjoy!   Experiment #5  DNA duplication, restructuring, and somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT): Failed.  Subject: Deceased.  The beginning results showed promise before they corrupted themselves. Further testing is required. Experiment #8   DNA duplication, restructuring, and somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT): Failed.  Subject: Deceased.  The results made it to the beginning of the restructuring process before the stress caused it to fail. Further testing is required. Experiment #10  DNA duplication, restructuring, and somatic cell nuclear tran...

Sam - 22

Cont... A month passed. Things had gone back to relatively normal with the exception that Tony and Steve were now in constant communication. Bucky went back to Wakanda and Wanda returned from her vacation. Nat was still unaccounted for. But that didn't matter right now. Not as Sam stood in front of a modest house in sunny Greece the whitewashed wall almost too bright to look at. Avery and he had reconciled and today, today was the day he was going to meet Riley's son. Max looked over from the gate as though to ask if he was ready. Sam gave a curt nod and tried to understand his emotions at that moment. The guilt was there, it always would be. But the weight was lighter now as was the pain and sadness. It would never heal, only alleviate over time. He'd realized he didn't mind it long ago. It was a memory, a curve in his story. Max opened the gate and stepped into the courtyard, Sam following. "Honey I'm home!" Max hollered. That had come as a...

Sam - 21

Cont... When Sam found Avery's room she was still on the phone but she waved him in with a smile. Max nodded to him at his spot "guarding" her door. "I know! The tragedy! Tell you what, when I get home we're going to spend the weekend eating junk food and watching crappy action thrillers and I won't say a thing about school." Avery said with a smile as Sam sat in the chair watching her talk animatedly on the phone. "Really! All weekend!" Avery insisted, "Do you think that would make up for me totally blowing taco night?" There was a long moment before a grin broke out on her face, "And all the ice cream you can imagine! Sounds like a plan. Though we might just have to cut you off from ice cream after that." Avery laughed at the response she got, "I know. I love you too, alright, bye." She ended the call and sighed contently. "Your son?" Sam said fondly. "Yeah, I kinda blew him off on our...
