Possibility of Tomorrow - 13

Cont...

Darling turned up in the US after that. More specifically, she showed up unannounced at Peter's Compound window one afternoon. Peter had looked so confused as he'd opened the window for her, "How'd you get up here?"

"None of your business Spidey." Darling had landed on the floor softly.

"Um. Okay. Why are you here?" Peter closed his window and turned to look at her, "Can you even be here? Is that like even allowed with everything going on and all? Like I really don't want to get in trouble for letting you in."

Darling chuckled at Peter, "Take a breath, buddy. I'm here to see Tony."

"Mr. Stark? He's in a meeting. I'm not sure if he can even meet with you. Can that happen?" Peter rambled again.

Darling laughed then, "Goodness. How do you not run out of words?" She sat in his desk chair and pulled down her hood, and unhooked her veil.

Peter looked a little gobsmacked when he saw her face, but his mouth didn't stop moving, "I just do this when I'm nervous or in over my head. Though Mr. Stark says, I do it often but not like this. This is more, fast."

"Forced." Darling offered, "Everything about you is fast. The word you want is forced."

"Forced, right. That works. Who are you again?" Peter was wringing his hands, having sudden deja vu of the day Mr. Stark had lied his way into his life.

Darling snorted, "Depends on who you ask. You can call me Darling."

"Darling," Peter tried the name out. It was a bit odd, but hey, he wasn't about to judge, "I'm Peter. Peter Parker."

"Nice to meet you, Peter." Darling nodded.

"You too, Darling. If you don't mind me asking, who are you?" Peter sat on his bed across from her.

Darling got an odd look on her face before smiling, "That's not really important. Now I'm just a glorified babysitter for the world’s most powerful group of idiots."

"The Rouges?" Peter asked.

"Who's really rouge? The people who don't want to get tossed in jail for disagreeing or the government who is trying to control everything they don't understand?" Darling reasoned.

"I feel that." Peter nodded, "Isn't there like a thing called personal privacy? Like this is discrimination."

"And the Accords break the Constitution." Darling nodded sagely.

"Wait, really?" Peter gaped wide-eyed.

"Yep. At least three times. It revokes human rights and US citizenship. Probably break the Geneva convention too." Darling listed.

"MJ's gonna flip." Peter breathed, "Mr. Stark is trying to amend it, but if it's that bad."

"Words are only as powerful as who say them. And there's a lot of things that people are trying to sweep under the rug of the Accords." Darling agreed.

"Do you think Mr. Stark can fix it?" Peter asked, suddenly getting a cold feeling in his gut.

"I think that it isn't too far gone to be fixed. But it'll take a lot of work." Darling said slowly.

"So it can be done?" Peter checked, letting the tight anxiety inside him loosen.

 "Possibly." Darling nodded, "Possibly yes."

"So why are you here?" Peter asked, feeling more comfortable.

"I'm here to try and fix a bridge that has been damaged. I don't think that's too far gone either." Darling rose from his chair.

"Mr. Stark and Captain Rogers." Peter nodded, rising with her.

"Yes, at the end of the day, all that is left is Tony Stark and Steve Rogers misunderstanding each other." Darling nodded, taking an envelope out of her back pocket, "Do you know when he'll be back?"

"I'm already here. Who are you?" Tony opened the door.

"Darling. We met on the boat about a month ago." Darling turned and thrust the envelope at Tony.

"I don't like being handed things." Tony quipped instantly, "How did you even get in?"

"Understandable. Here's the gist, and I'm quoting here, 'get your butt to Friendsgiving with enough lasagna to feed an army or so help me Stark I'll bedazzle all your suits.' Courtesy of Romanoff." Darling tossed the invitation at Peter, who caught it, "Details are in the envelope. Now, I have a flight to catch. See you in a few weeks."

"Hey, wait!" Peter called, but Darling was already gone.

"How did she even get in?" Tony blinked.

"Uhhhh. I might have let her in?" Peter sputtered, "Sorry?"

"You let her in?" Tony checked, running his head.

"Yeah, oops?" Peter offered sheepishly.

"We need to have a serious talk about security. Now let's see that invitation." Tony sighed.
